EFFECTIVE FOIA TIPS

  • Be specific about date ranges, locations, and document types
  • Reference known program names (AATIP, AAWSAP, Project Blue Book, etc.)
  • Request fee waivers if for journalistic or educational purposes
  • Ask for Vaughn indices if documents are withheld
  • File appeals within 90 days if requests are denied
  • Consider filing with multiple agencies for broader coverage
